Do you guys have a date set for your poultry processing class? I wanted to make sure I’m in town before I signed up for it. Thanks!
Thanks for asking, Joe. Life got busy for a while there, but we just got the chicks in Saturday! Right now it looks like either the 28th of April or the 5th of May. That date will be firmed up this week & we’ll announce it. Each person will take home the bird that they process. They’ll be cornish cross hens; great meat birds!
Are you going to be offering rabbit raising classes again at some point? I raise them too and would love to hear others ways of doing it.
We’re gradually building up our course offerings. We will be offering an aquaponics class in May, 2012. After that we’ll be holding a cultured dairy foods class and a vermiculture (raising worms) class. Rabbits are a while down the road, but in the meantime, I recommend you sign up on the Valley Permaculture Alliance (www.phoenixpermaculture.org) forums and join the micro-livestock group. There are many rabbit owners there who can share ideas with you. It certainly is nice when you can share ideas with like-minded people!
Sheri I just want to say WOW!!!! I’ve processed chicken before but that breed we did on may 5 was outstanding! !! I roasted her up tonight and I don’t think I can ever eat a store bought one again!! Thank you sooo much (and your husband too) Im looking forward to taking more of your classes…your way of processing was so much cleaner and more efficient than the way I was taught…thank you so much hope to see you soon!
Joe, thank you so much for attending! It was a fun class! I’m glad you learned new ways to process. It’s all about sharing ideas and figuring out what’s best for each of us and our unique needs. I learned a couple tips from the class, too.
Aren’t they tasty?? We had our first of the batch Monday evening. (We had a late dinner because I’d forgotten how long it takes to cook a 6lb bird. LOL!) That’s how I feel about our home-grown turkeys, too. It sure spoils you to good food!
See you in another class one day!
